Longhouse Construction 1976 Historic gallery of art at 1710 log house

The Building

Originally built in 1972 by the Kiwanis Club of Tsawwassen as the South Delta Library, it became the home of the South Delta Artists Guild in 1999. It was designed in the style of a Coast Salish Longhouse as a tribute to the Tsawwassen First Nations and called “The Longhouse” to recognize the First Nations design and artwork.

It was later renamed Gallery 1710, to indicate the broad range of artwork shown within the gallery and to help patrons find their way.

The building has a large workroom, kitchen and storage space, allowing the Guild to hold workshops, classes and special events. Members may also use the studio space, either on their own, or with others during scheduled drop-in times.
